Hunting w/Rifle

Hunting w/Rifle - 03/05/13 07:03 PM

I'm new to Texas, as well as THF (great site BTW), and have always hunted with a Savage 2400 combination (12ga/.222) as my calling skills sometimes have a lot to be desired. Is it legal here in TX with a rifle?

Sure is if hunting Rios. I think hunting Easterns may have to be with shotgun only...

I thought the same thing. It is worded a little strange in the regulations
"shotguns are the only legal firearm that may be used to hunt Eastern turkey during the spring Eastern turkey season (see County Listing). Rifles and handguns may not be used to hunt Eastern turkey."

I guess that means no bow season in the spring

You're correct Navasot.

(Note: Do not use a rifle or handgun for Eastern turkey; for which only shotguns, archery equipment, and crossbows may be used.)

Be careful if you hunt certain public lands as a few prohibit the use of rifles.
