Dear Interested Public,

I would like to invite you to join a collaborative group to discuss and generate ideas for eastern
wild turkey habitat management. Specifically, we would like your input regarding the use of
wildlife openings on National Forests in the Compartment 63 and Sandy Creek Projects on the
Angelina National Forest, and the North Moore Project on the Sabine National Forest. We have
scheduled a meeting for March 21, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Ellen Trout Zoo in Lufkin,
Texas.

Jason Hardin, Upland Game Bird Specialist with
Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, will be
giving a presentation on the eastern wild turkey
Habitat Suitability Index (HSI), which is being
used to score eastern wild turkey habitat on
National Forests lands. According to the HSI,
much of the National Forests lands rank low in the
availability of open habitat. As a result we are
considering several ideas for increasing open
habitat, such as establishing permanent wildlife
openings, using clearings for longleaf regeneration,

maintaining and widening road and utility right-a-ways, and developing wildlife cooperatives
with adjacent private landowners who have open habitat.

Therefore, we would like for you to join us at collaborative meeting to discuss wildlife openings
and eastern wild turkey management. Once again, the meeting is scheduled for March 21st from

6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Ellen Trout Zoo, located at 402 Zoo Circle, Lufkin, Texas 75904. If you
have any questions please contact Jason Engle by at (936) 897-1068 or email him at
