Wyoming bobcat

Wyoming bobcat - 12/07/20 02:42 PM

Thought I would post some bobcats, if we catch more than one that is.
Caught this nice female yesterday in a Bridger #3, dirt hole set with a pigeon wing for attractant and John Graham Tomcat for lure.
Hope she brings a decent price, not sure of we'll ship to auction or just sell.

Thank you, she's much nicer than the one that brought $200 last year.

Re: Wyoming bobcat - 12/07/20 05:00 PM

Good sized female that should stretch maybe 38 inches or so.
Our males are really nice sized, usually stretch to well over 40 inches, usually a 2X size.

This male was about 44 inched stretched and dried. Nice big male, waiting for it to sell at January auction we hope.

Some more pics from the catch yesterday.
The trap was set with a drag and the cat hit the brush right above the set. Can you spot her ?
The catch pole led to a rodeo of sorts but finally got her into position for a shot, no catch pole ended up being used for the take.

Put he bobcat and coyotes on stretcher boards to dry. Should take about a week in our humidity. They'll get a borax cleaning after they dry, then blow it all out and brush up for sale to the fur buyer or off to auction.

Pulled our traps this morning, more snow coming in. You can get a glimpse of our current weather on CBSSN, Wyoming football game is on now.
We'll set them out again next week if we can.
Had 2 nice coyotes and a great prime badger, he was a surprise. We keep him and get him tanned for ourselves.

Badgers? We don't need no stinking badgers!

How much does a badger pelt go for nowadays? Are they pretty desirable?

Great job keeping the predators in check.

Just my .02,

[quote=LeonCarr]Badgers? We don't need no stinking badgers!

Our thoughts too !

They don't bring much, maybe $25-40. He's furred up nicely and will be pretty tanned, claws on. Had him by 1 toe, front foot.

Re: Wyoming bobcat - 12/14/20 11:55 PM

2 more coyotes fleshed and boarded and another getting fleshed tonight. Badger will get fleshed and boarded later this week.

Bobcat and coyote ready for the buyer. Not sure on the bobcat's belly but if the price isn't right she'll go to the tannery and we'll keep her, or sell the tanned hide. Bobcat stretched to just over 36", makes it a L-1X.
The coyotes are all pretty nice this year due to lack of snow.

Got our 5 coyotes and a bobcat ready for the fur buyer. Hoping to get $35 or so for coyotes, maybe more but we'll see. Bobcat market is down but we'll sell her for $150 or so I think.

Thanks for the honesty on the prices- I have read about these $1,000 a pelt on bobcat but wondered if that was a one out of a hundred deal.

Good years it's not uncommon. Our trapping mentor made $1,200 at auction one year.
Last year our iffy cats brought $250 and good ones $500.
Coyotes were actually pretty good this year, we got $60 for so so ones . Good guard hair coyotes brought almost $100 this year.

We might get after some beavers next few weeks after the creeks thaw a bit. Castor prices are good and we just want to catch a few and skin and maybe tan them. Best time for beaver trapping is next few weeks up here, we can set some water and trail sets, leghold traps.
Need to find a beaver board pattern though.

Re: Wyoming bobcat - 03/08/21 06:27 PM

Actually down by 2/3 but we'll take it this year. Rumor has it prices are rising for furs at auctions overseas. Hoping our good cat from last year gets sold in Canada this April.
