New to calling coyotes

I have access to 500 acres Young county, and have had some success calling in coyotes with my Flextone electronic call. Still learning though, so a couple of basic questions:

1. Once set up, how long do you call before moving on? Of the half dozen or so coyotes that I've called in it seems like they all responded in 5-10 minutes.

2. On a single set, do you stick to one animal sound? For example would you ever use both rabbit distress and fawn distress on the same set? (I realize the specific combinations depend on the time of year.)

Thanks guys – I really want to get good at this. At a point in life where I have pretty much lost the fire for shooting deer but coyotes are something I can get excited about.

15-20 minutes, you can change up call, what I did, start with a distress, then change to coyote challenge ect

Lately in my area (central Texas) it has been 20-30 minutes. I change up between several calls. Mostly different rabbit distress but I'll throw in a bird distress(woodpecker) once in a while. You never know what may show up.

If you walk in to where you are going to call, start with low volume for about 5 minutes. Then increase the volume gradually in increments. Starting on high volume may spook coyotes that are close. The main thing is, don't slam the truck doors. If you have a partner, don't talk. Whisper. Settle in at your stand you're calling from and wait 5 minutes for things to settle down then start the calling process Remember you are in their house and they know everything that is out of place just like you do in your house. If the area has been hunted before, coyotes get used to hearing certain calls and you will have to change to something different. 30 minutes at a stand is normally when I move on. When food is plentiful, they may not respond at all and you may have to go to challenge calls or a female in heat call. If it's dry and hot and food is scarce, then the rabbit calls are always good. Good Luck! I'd rather kill a coyote then a 10 point buck. One less to breed and eat our sheep and goats.

Thanks for all the info guys. Hunted a few weeks ago and the fawn distress call brought one running in within 5 minutes. Walked up on a doe tending a fawn on my way to the stand so seemed logical to "match the hatch."

Learn to be quiet and still, with minimal movement. Set up with a backdrop to hide your outline, and always try to get the sun at your back, with the wind in your face or a, at least on your cheek. Start with mouse squeaks, in case any are close by, then gradually get louder with other calls. I just look and see what I got for prey species and use that...if you can record your own calls, try using a puppy whine or a kitten mewing for its momma...if there are any around they will normally abandon caution and fly into your setup.
