That's what Gary Roberson calls it. Had a yote standing directly in front of me and when I settled on the sticks and pulled the trigger it just went click, must have short stroked it from the time before. I slowly work another round into the chamber and the whole time she was looking right at me. She should have run when she had the chance, hit her in the neck.

I agree couple of weeks ago I took a buddy out put him on a coyote got ready to shoot and it went click. He got loud telling me the the gun didnt fire. Told him next time just reload and fire. He said his brain quit on him Still was a fun night.

1973....I was 8. Grandparents ranch on the Cowhouse Creek in Hamilton county.... I was down by the creek right at dark down in a 10' deep wash that fed into the creek....a bobcat or mountain lion screamed from the gully next to me....to this day I don't know what it was but it sounded like a woman screaming RIGHT NEXT TO ME....I had a little .22 and was half a mile from the house. Never been more frightened my entire life....

Second, I was 14' up in the air stabbing a cement head on casing to do a production job. Got the head attached, iron hammered up and they whet to pick me up from the elevators and bring me back to the rig floor. As they took the slack out of the airhoist I heard a loud "CLICK" and the hook rolled out of my belt and I fell to the rig floor.....lost a year of work over that little "click" with a broken foot, torn muscles in my back and a shattered right wrist that required four surgeries and lots of PT to make functional again....

It will be on an episode of CARNIVORE for this next season.

1999 - Coleman County. The largest free-range deer I had ever seen strolled down a sendero at about 5:00 PM. I had arrived late, so tried to load round quietly - and not fully getting it seated. Leveled on hoss and pulled trigger, only to get the loudest CLICK possible. He jumped 5' into the air, pivoted, and never stopped. I was sick.

Dalroo, I have seen this happen so many times with semi-auto platforms. One of the many reasons that I stay with the old tried and true bolt guns...that and I am old fashioned.
I hate to take guys coyote calling with the AR platforms...walk half a mile from the truck to get away from the metallic racket and my buddy slams the bolt on his rifle. It is at this time when I get him up and walk another quarter to half a mile.

5 minutes left till end of legal shooting hours, had closed blind windows 5 minutes earlier. Largest buck I have ever seen on my place, never seen on cams, walks out into the pasture 75 yards away. Slowly try to raise window, window sticks, and BAM!! window slams top of frame and buck

Not varmint calling related but I'd like to share, Saturday was the first time hunting with my new hearing aids. My Phonax hearing aids have a dB limiter, everything over a certain dB sounds like it's running a suppressor, yet this last time Gary and I went hunting was the first time I could consistently hear the caller and it was very clear and loud. Before I could only catch bit's and pieces and had to struggle. Maybe Gary noticed but I wasn't always saying "What" this time. Folks if you need hearing aids get them, they've come a long ways! I've been hesitant about shooting while wearing them but no more. Bird hunting will be the real test but I think I'll be pleased with the results.

What???? Steve and I noticed a difference as soon as we started visiting. Glad that they are working so well for you.

The loudest sound I've heard was from a rifle being fired inside a blind (not hanging out window). My father was loading his Remington 700 - it discharged when the bolt closed. Apparently this was a problem with some earlier Remington 700s. Fortunately, the rifle was pointed in a safe direction. Unfortunately, it was a large caliber (I think 280) and had a muzzle brake. Had a ringing in my ears for most of that hunt. Thankfully, the rifle was pointed towards the window so we didn't end up with a hole in the blind.

This happened during all the negative press many years ago surrounding issues with Remington 700s. My father didn't believe the media and coincidentally we had talked about it within a few weeks before it happened. Combined we've had quite a few Remington 700s and never experienced that problem in the many years of owning and shooting them.

Needless to say... all the triggers in our 700s were replaced before the next hunt. This was before Remington offered to fix for free so we were out a lot of $$$ replacing the triggers with Timney. Since that incident... my father won't load a bullet in the chamber until he sees a target.
