I have the Havahart 1084 Easy Set One Door Cage Trap. Used it in the backyard and attic. Caught raccoons and opossums. Been worth it to me since I can’t shoot in the city.

City animal control probably has traps they can come out and set, might call them to see.

I've caught most of mine in town in a Have-A-Hart trap using the cheapest, nastiest smelling canned cat food I can find at the Dollar Store. If they're eating your 'maters, toss a 'mater core or two in with the cat food.

True^^^
They set and monitor the traps and ask that you call if one is caught.

I've had a lot of success with just ordinary farm store box traps baited with dry cat food. The stinkier the better. They can't resist it. I use a water bottle cut down to make a cup and install that full of cat food in the back of the trap. It's wise to stake the trap with long rods poked through top to bottom. A couple of these will keep the rambunctious ones from turning trap over on it's side and escaping.

Best way to catch those rascals is with meat, like chicken. They are so light footed they will often go in a live trap, eat your bait and leave w/o setting it off, so if you use one set the trigger very light! I prefer Dukes style dog proof with some dry catfood topped with some leftover chicken scraps.

Sardines don’t open just Polk a few holes in them

Catch them all the time in the backyard with the Havehart live traps. We use bones and scraps. Take them to the lake a few miles away and let them go.

Cheapest opossum trap you can buy is a open top 55 gallon barrel, put stinky bait in the barrel and place next to a fence post and the critter climbs the post and jumps in to the barrel and can't climb back out.

I'd try snares provided they are legal. Today's snares are totally different and they hold the animal but don't kill it. Possums aren't too smart and they often wander into traps set for other animals. Snares are cheap and you can set up a bunch. Any cat or dog can be safety let go. You can keep the possum and fatten it up.
