Another Fort Hood Coyote down - 10/11/17 04:11 PM

Was hog hunting this am when a coyote walked into one of my shooting lanes and took a dump. I steadied the cross hair on her chest and let the 870 Wingmaster bark. Shot was 120 yards center punched her chest and bullet came out between her shoulder blades leaving a hole the size of a baseball thanks to Hornady 300 gr SSTs.

Ouch. I've shot coyotes with some pretty big stuff, but never a 300 grain slug.

What to consider the maximum effective range for that shotgun? 120 yrd sounds like a really good shot to a 12 gage....

Good shooting!

Good shooting!
120 is the furthest I've shot it. It's sighted in at 100 and those Hornady SSTs are very accurate. I think I could take it out to 200 but it loses steam very quickly after that.

That is great info. I would have never thought you could reach out and touch them that far.
From the looks of it, it had plenty of steam left when it hit at 120 yds
Good job !

What company makes the slug gun that groups well at 200 yards? I may need to add one to my arsenal.

Mike....it was either Remington or Savage if I remember correctly. They came out quite a few years ago. If money isn't an object, a company called Tarhunt(I believe they're out of North Carolina) Makes INSANELY accurate slug guns..
