Got a big spotted one

Got a big spotted one - 09/12/15 07:46 PM

Sometimes a picture just doesn't do an animal justice. This is on of those times.
I have shot many pigs that weighed in at 200+ pounds, this guy blew them away. If I ever saw a 300 pounder this is it (if not 300, he was really close).
I had someone that wanted him but I had to leave him for the buzzards. It had rained and it was super muddy out, I couldn't get the truck within a 1/4 mile.
We have watched this guy get bigger and hairier since spring. He had much shorter hair a few months back.
It was tricky tying my phone to the feeder leg and doing a time-lapse photo to get a picture.

For comparison I measured my binos at 7" and I am 240 pounds. My boots are touching his rump, this is not one of them pictures where you stand far behind the animal to make him look bigger.

That is a large hog! Way to go. Too bad you couldn't drag it out, but things don't always work out that way.

Keep after 'em!

Just throw him over your shoulder and walk out with him. wink

That's a good hog for sure.

Congratulations.

I like the shape of its head as well. Built like a lineman. And teeth too.

I took a picture of his head for that reason. He had a wedge head

looks like an awesome hog. there's a BIG spotty one like that that has been showing up at our place again. dunno how big, but big. will be down there for the south zone dove opener this weekend and will try a little hog hunting too. I didn't think I'd ever want to mount a hog...but if I can collect on him...I might have to cape him out.

I thought about mounting that guy a little too late, he would have been cool on the wall.
Looks like I will have to go find another.

It's a Ruger 700 VTR in .308.
I got it from a friend that was in a financial pinch. I really didn't care for the triangled barrel, I thought it was goofy. But I took it hunting and fell in love with it. It is now my go-to gun so I gave it a Timney trigger recently. Someone gave me that rubber thing that is on the barrel about a year ago, it is supposed to help somehow. I don't even know if it is on the right place on the barrel, but it sure shoots dang good and makes a great bumper when you lean the gun against the wall in a blind.

This is kind of hard to believe that this is the same pig. The date is correct on the picture.
This guy really fluffed up, gained weight and shape in a short amount of time. I have some in-between pictures in July and August where he has medium length hair.
Makes me wonder why a pig would change so much so quickly.

Same spot pattern, sure looks to be the same pig.

Never seen one 'hair out' like that before though. I've seen every variation in coat length and color but not seen a mature (or near mature) hog change significantly.

That was an exceptionally clean hog, would have made an interesting mount.

Thanks for sharing,

Flint.
