Duck cove Terrell public hunting land - 01/28/15 08:29 PM

Dang so I went the this morning at 7 around 10 I scared up a big pig on the otherside if the creek. So I popped it twice with buck shot and missed the 3rd shot as he ran for it's stinky life. Well I ran clear across the creek and I swear I walked on the water or pretty darn close to it! Popped out the creek reloaded and started chasing the way I thought it went and lost all sign. So I doubled back the scene the god the blood trail. By this point I've called my dad telling him get to the levee so he can find me and help me track it(drag that big pig out) well I picked up the blood trail pretty easy and started following it through every thorny vine in the woods till the freaking blood just stops and there is no pig in sight and not another drop of freaking blood to be found... So by now my dad is on the levee looking Down for me and I get him and put him on the blood trail and same thing happens we end up at the same spot I lost the trail at. So we spread out and grid searched till 2 and pops called it.

Well on out walk back to the car about 30 feet from the parking lot under a big cedar tree is a kennel with a pit puppy dead that someone shot in the face... And then at the car I I looked back that way and saw a trash bag that was also new so I cut it open and there was another dead pit puppy... I have really lost lost a lot of faith in humanity after seeing that today.. And I feel like I should still be looking for the pig but walking back to irving with a 12 guage is the last thing on my list of things to do before I die..

Be careful with your choice of ammunition. WMA's restrict you to non-toxic or no larger than #4.

Good luck next time.

I would hate to see 2 pups put down like that, and not being able to find your bacon sucks too. If it makes you feel any better, I was at work all day...

and #4 birdshot would tickle a feral hog grin

little tip. Back pack. i carry a mesh type one by adidas under orange. cut along back bone, then filay so can get at back strap, same with quarters. Roll over & repeat. dont mrss with gutting & tenderloin. carry trash bags in back pack also. have taken many hogs over years from several miles back in. Friend & i went out one hunt, forgot backpacks. killed 200# hog. had rope wrappef around twice for belt. we used it ta drag. Friend is a Big man, twice my size. he did most work. Back pack, if ya bring it out. flag

Thanks colt thats a great tip bc I know the bacon that got away was a thick big pig and my dad and I would deff had hell draggin it out the mile in I shot it at!

Man Jake it sucked really bad. I think thats one of the worst things I've seen in person. I'm actually gonna head out there in the Am and bury them. Alot of my firneds are like call the cops but I just really dont think thats gonna help...
and yeah losing the bacon was a gut kick but man those pups I found that was a face and balls kick...

ohh yeah no more buck shot for me I'll be using slugs only for now on bc tryin i just dont think buck shot with do at 20-50 yards and yeah #4 bird shot would be like shooting me in the [censored] with a bb gun
