3 Dead Yotes, 1 Dead (FAT) Sow - 08/19/11 04:43 PM
M Bennett set out a request this past weekend to dispatch coyotes. Being my vacation week. I decided to give him a call. Glad I did. Instructions were to set up near the only tree in the field. Glad we listened to him!!!!
TO BE DISPATCHED
a). Coyotes
b). Small Varmints (quail egg eaters)
c). Pregnant sows, Sows with trailing piglets or a big boar with 3" cutters
SAW
a). 7 deer
b). 5 coyotes
c). 35+ hogs
THE REPORT
8:45 The deer came in early (sunset)
8:50 One coyote came at dusk but was between deer and us. Finally, cleared safety of deer but was prancing at 300 yards. Didn't attempt shot.
9:30 Spotted 3 hogs (100-150#) working West Fence Line. Traveling North.
10:00 Kept spotting deer.
10:45 Nice big coyote 40+# worked SW of us. Gut shot.
11:30 We heard large sounder of hogs SW. For the next 45 minutes we could tell they were working our way but never entered field.
12:00 the Yotes started yelping then all heck broke lose!
12:05 Within 5 Minutes a sounder of 15-20 hogs worked in from the SW corner.
12:10 We spotted coyote crossing the field West to East LESS THEN 50 YARDS I set up. 3 Ran our direction (no call used). I pulled out my Subsonic .22 nailed the trailing yote. The lead yote stopped looked behind. Mistake. The other Yote took off. My friend George watched the hogs in the back corner. Crack of the .22 didn't scare them at all.
12:15 Another sounder of hogs entered from the West Field 18-25 hogs. 12:18 Another coyote worked in from the behind us traveling West-NW. I whistled for it to stop @ 40ish yards. Stomach shot. Hogs that just entered field scurried off but came back and started feeding again.
12:20 We saw a 300+ boar but it was easily 500 yards out with the bigger sounder. They kept working NE - E and we weren't sure if they were ever going to work our direction. We decided to go after the closer sounder.
12:30 Spotted sow looked big we put a stalk on her. 10 minutes later sow dispatched.
