Serious,Informed responses Antelope Jackrabbit - 07/05/11 06:09 AM

My spouse and I were e-mailed by one of the Wildlife Refuge supervisors in our home state today. They did not state that it would be impossible OR illegal for us to keep an Antelope Jackrabbit (the specific type of hare I want) as an actual pet on our property. We were only informed that our state is home to the Eastern Cottontail rabbits. My purpose is not to breed the Antelope Jackrabbit. It is to merely obtain one and maintain it as our personal pet. I also feel that perhaps my being full blooded Native American would have some sort of relevance here in my right to keep such said creature. We have spoken to my uncle on the Reservation in Arizona about this topic briefly during one of our recent trips there. He didn't seem to indicate either that it was unlawful to obtain one. So that being stated if someone in this forum can be of further assistance to us it would be Seriously appreciated. Thanks in advance! ProTrails Antelope Jackrabbit

No expert, but like cotton tails, I believe they fail to thrive in captivity. Legality aside, its not a breed I've ever seen domesticated.
