Central Kansas Hunt - 11/24/22 02:39 PM
Hunted last weekend in Central KS. Overall, pheasant crop was down, maybe 30% less birds than last year. Quail crop seemed to be up a little with several 20+ bird coveys a day. Farmer we hunted on said 6 inches of rain since Feb 1st. CRP was sparser for sure. Scenting conditions were really tough after 9am, lots of unproductives and birds outrunning us, definitely lower ratio of shot birds over points than I can remember. My 9 mos old pup had several good retrieves, but still a lot of puppy, especially with 3 other dogs on the ground and lots of people to play "grab butt" with. Had three young kids with us that were gamers when the first turn was 20 degrees each morning, so that help to make the trip.
