Best 75.00 I ever spent

Best 75.00 I ever spent - 06/24/20 09:48 PM

Today sitting on my cabin deck in Dickens county My Spinone Riley 2. 5 years old started barking and backing away from something in the middle of the yard. As I suspected it was a 2 ft. diamond back. I quickly dispatched it. I usually kill 2 or 3 rattlers a year but this is the first in the last 2 years. I have had Riley snake conditioned and was uncertain how he would respond to an encounter. His response is exactly what I hoped for and that 75.00 was a great investment/ The alternative was a panic drive to Lubbock 80 miles away and some big bucks for anti venom shots.

Glad to hear that your pup kept his distance!

Not that it matters much ('cause a snakebit dog is a snakebit dog...regardless of species) but I think you'll find that that's a massasauga rattlesnake, not a diamondback. Hey, I just learned about 'em a couple of years ago...

Anyways, he's a "good" snake now!

Actually 218 Bee is correct as it is not a Diamond back, my mistake, but a Prairie Rattler which although not dominant is more common in my area.

You know, Flash, it's really splitting hairs when it comes to "danger noodles". If they buzz, they get shot! rifle

Your dog did a good job because he didnt get bit. However, I would continue to desnake him as he still showed interest in the snake.

My young female went to the avoidance clinic last summer, and will be going back this summer.
My males have always been one, and done. But my females always need more convincing, that snakes are a bad deal.
We do yearly vaccinations also.

Good job on your dog keeping his distance.
My male would tuck his tail and run if he saw, or caught scent of a snake.
He gave them a wide berth, then would go back to hunting.

I took my male Brit to his third clinic last year and it was a fight to get him near the snakes..
He will not need a refesher.
