Just Set Up The Nursery!

CCBIRDOGMAN and I have a nice litter of French Brittanys on the way out of Bleu and Kate. I can’t wait to see what these pups will do! I had a vet check Monday and we have 7 on the way. Kate is getting big. I took her for a swim in the tank tonight and it looked like a lot of relief.

Man that's exciting! Best of luck on the litter and all those little guys and gals are going to become as bird dogs!

Looking forward to the puppy pictures.

I’ll post up some puppy pictures when they hit the ground. I’m just hoping everything goes well. I’ve been trying to get a litter out of Kate for three years. She wouldn’t stand for a dog when in heat until this year. Watching your best dog swell up and waddle along is like watching your wife the last month of pregnancy. Just hoping everything goes smoothly and that body goes back to almost like it was.

I hope not but I will if I have to. I have plenty of help. My wife and 2 boys have been making sure everyone gets a turn on the milk supply. The boys, (9&11) will make sure they are plenty well socialized. The youngest has been spending the summer messing with the baby pigeons. I don’t think he’s even touched a pigeon today. Bird dog puppies are top priority.

I’m keeping one and Kevin is keeping one. That’s why we bred them. They’re probably the nicest and most well bred French Britts in Tx.

The boys already have their own bird dogs. A buddy of mine gave the oldest boy a Shorthair pup named Bonnie from BDK kennel 4 years ago and she’s nice. Dax, takes care of all of my dogs for me.

The youngest boy, (Pigeon Gage), would keep all of them if he could but he has Lucy, a 4yr old daughter out of the stud dog Bleu. She’s one hell of a nice birddog/house dog, and the only one that will mind him. I have a feeling the pup we keep will be his too.

Everyone was taking a nap when I got home today except little Blitz. He was still working on a tit. Most have started walking and a few teeth are showing up. I love puppies!

All of the pups are healthy and eating gruel. I still haven’t decided on my pick. They have started recognizing us and getting excited when we get in with them.Amanda and the boys spend all day messing with them and have a new favorite every day when I get home. The family is already talking about how tough it will be when they go to their forever homes. I think every one of them will make a dog. Their personalities are starting to develop. It’s a tough decision on which one I like the best. Everyone has a name and the boys tell me what they did all day.

Bobby, your favorite runt is named Bones. He’s getting fat now, but if I kept him the name would stick. Bones was one of the nicest pointers I ever hunted behind.

Bones is a great name. Bet he will be a goodun! Looks like maybe that boy has him picked already.

That's the little male, right? Who's getting him?

That’s the big male. Chalet is getting him. He’s a real nice pup. I think he’s the prettiest. A buddy of mine I grew up with picked the runt male, Bones. He wanted the pup pictured but his 8 year old son liked the runt. We have hunted together and he put up money Before they were born. My buddy asked me which one I’d pick and I was honest when I said I’d be happy with any of them. I’ve watched these pups every day for hours and it is too tough to pick. None are timid and all love people. With my two boys all the noise doesn’t even turn their heads. I hate to see them go. It would be fun to keep a whole litter, put them on bird and then pick. I got a point out of everyone in the litter at 6 weeks!

I just walked out to the shop and my youngest son was tossing grasshoppers in the pen watching the pups kill them. A little extra protein.

Mama got back in shape. She was skinny and developed mastitis. I had to pull the pups off of her at 5 weeks. She’s back to 100%.

It would have been nice to see a few more dove flying over tonight. My tank overflowed last night though. 4” of rain at my place!
