Sorry to hear about that. Always tough losing a family member.

Yes. No signs at all. Was happy and bouncing around at 3 and stiff at 7. 3 days from her 8th birthday. Kennel was spotless, no vomit, blood, poop, nothing. Like she was laying there asleep and had a heart attack. No clue.

That is the kind of surprise nobody wants to get. It's very hard not to get attached to a Brittany. They love you like a Lab.

Condolences. They give us all they have without even being asked most of the time. The passing of the good ones take me awhile to get over. A promising new puppy helps...

One of life's greatest incongruities...a dog lives 10 or so years... a man lives 70 or so...leaves the door open for more than one "good" dog, in a man's life...but most of us have had a special one...and when they go...no matter their age, no matter the circumstance...it's way too soon, and way too sudden ! In my prayers, sir.

Kev I'm so very sorry for your loss.
I had my 9 year old, do the same thing last year.
I had him, and a young pup in the field with me.
It was a beautiful cool morning, and we were only in the field for maybe 15 minutes tops.
They pointed a quail. Then he made a loop to go in, and relocate it after the flush.
Just as I saw him get birdy, his whole body started to relax.
I rushed to him, and helped him lay on his side. He never struggled, and in under a minute he was passed away.
I can't begin to tell you how upset I was, but I know you are feeling the same way.
It took me a couple of days to think about it. He left this world without out feeling any pain.
If I could chose the way I leave, I wouldn't mind it being the same way.
