Blues out west - 12/04/18 05:35 PM

Anyone been way out west yet? Like west of Midland? Going to make a quick run this weekend out to Monahans and just wondering if anyone has been out that way yet this year?

Kev,
As far as you are going, that will not be a “quick run” from Cedar Creek. You will spend more time driving than hunting. Good luck though and please post a report when you return.

Here’s to a great hunt! 🍺

I know, gonna be a long haul but weather is supposed to be nice and I talked my buddy into riding along to keep me company on the road.

I hope y’all have better luck than we did. I’ve hunted SE of monahans (Crane County), 3 times this season. I drug my trailer back last weekend. It’s too far for the amount of blues this year, and the grassburrs are worse than usual. Take some dog boots.

I hope they got more rain than we did by Crane this spring. I heard they did.

I go out there a couple of times a week and have not seen many birds. It was a hot dry summer. Not to say that there aren't any birds there, I just have not seen any. There is a 70% chance of freezing rain starting Thursday night and Friday, Saturday and Sunday are supposed to be nice though. Our place is between Big Lake and Rankin, and we have not seen but maybe 10-12 coveys of birds on 5 sections. Hopefully you guys will have better luck, just be safe in the crazy West Texas Traffic.

My sister, and BIL have some land out there.
As of two weeks ago, they have not even heard a quail calling this year.

I am in se new mexico. Its bad. Was told there was a late hatch in september. 2 inches of rain in october and feezing rain after that killed the late hatch Only veteran birds left and veteran blues are a heck of a challenge

Just got back from between Kermit and Andrews. Lots of Blues and a few bobs.
They got a lot of rain this year and have lots of tall grass and seedy weeds.
