I had a great time sitting next to a WW2 vet and old bird dog man bullshting about dogs. I only shot 3 times and killed 2. He never picked up his gun. The kids killed 14 doves and there were a lot more than we expected coming in to water. We saw one covey of bird next to a buddy’s house on the drive home, and it was small in Fisher County.

Hunted the same place neat Olney on opening day for the last few years. We've always heard quail in the morning, and usually bumped a covey or two walking into the field.

NOT THIS YEAR. I did not hear a single call this weekend.

I spent a couple of days at my lease in Coke County. After the brutal summer, recent rains have been good so there is a lot of new vegetation and there were more Bobs calling on Labor day than I heard when I was there in spring turkey season. I'd say they are trying to have a late hatch and if they do there will be plenty of insects so maybe some will survive. Grasshoppers and bugs are abundant. I did not see any evidence of a hatch thus far so it's badly needed. Hope I'm wrong but I'm afraid it's going to be slow this year.

Yes, in Runnels County (Winters, TX) there was a decent amt of quail action going on. Saw and heard them two days in a row.

Where I hunt dove in Crane county I have been seeing alot of blues. Maybe the resident coveys since I have seen them in same areas for past few years. The covey size is little down but have decent water and habitat that they can survive in bad times.

Good reports coming from monahans peyote and ft Stockton areas. They've had rain all summer. My buddy says hes put up quite a few large coveys of 20 plus while driving the oil feild roads.

Very few birds in Coleman County; lease in Kent County got shut down for the season. Between the poor dove season and minimal quail the scattergun isn't getting much use this year
