Looking for a GSP trainer

I think I’ve settled on a young GSP from Charlie Rose at Wildrose Kennels. With that being said can anyone recommend a good trainer in the DFW area? Mainly will be hunting quail and dove. Maybe a trip to Kansas each year to hunt some pheasant. Also, what’s the going monthly cost for quality training? I’m not looking to make my dog the next field trial chanpion, just a good hunting dog that’s an even better family pet. Any recommendations are appreciated.

Why not just leave him with Charlie Rose and pick him up when he’s ready to go? I don’t know how young the dog is.

Rob did a great job with my pooch and specializes in GSPs

I don’t think Charlie is training anymore.

Mike Mullineaux trains mostly GSP's. He does not work cheap but he knows what he is doing. 100% professional. He's only in Texas part of the year but trains full time.

I’d like to hear your thoughts on Rose as well. I don’t know the man but have visited with him a few times. He’s an old school dog man that knows his line. A guide/dog training buddy of mine from Kansas got a couple of pups from him three years ago and they turned out to be fine dogs. I was going to get a pup from him two years ago but a buddy of mine gave me a nice little BDK kennel gyp.

I was on the PDJ BB with him. He was called out several times for not finishing the job. He recommended that one guy hunted his dog with a CC the first year.

I’d recommend Tony Miller at Endeavor Kennels....local, reasonable, and most of all, good with pointing dogs.

He has a great repeating on NSTRA. I'd go with Rod.

You can train your own but you need a place and birds.

I got my GSP from Charlie in ‘03. Healthiest dog I’ve ever owned. Was from his Dixieland Rusty breeding. Sorry to say we have an appointment with the vet for her to be put down in the morning. Josey has been 1 tough dog.

Rob has a trained a couple of buddies dogs, specialty is getting dogs started.

Another buddy got a dog from Charlie and he paid to get him started; wasnt really started and I ended up getting him whoa trained and pointing and holding birds. Ended up being a solid dog, close to a 70lbs, very aggressive toward other dogs even pups and females.

Does anyone know what the going monthly rate is now for Rob or other trainers?

I've got a Rose dog indirectly from a forum member. Charlie did not train her but she's a great dog. A little hard to handle at times but in the field she can sure find birds and she is as steady on point as any dog I've ever hunted behind. Some of that is training but a whole lot is breeding.

So what’s the problem? I have hunted young, ill- handling pups for a season with a CC many times for nothing more to grind the wild edge off of them and keep them on the front. Dragging a CC does wonders for them. At least I can keep them in the area so they can listen to commands and whistle. Everyone of mlne have had to deal with the CC and they all handle like a glove even at a long distance. I see nothing but improvement from them using the CC.
