Quail gestation

Quail gestation - 07/26/17 01:42 AM

I know how long it takes an egg to hatch but how long from the time a female decides to mate till she has a nest with eggs. With late rains and more on the way next week trying to figure out when a late hatch would produce 6 week old birds.

I think they lay an egg a day until their clutch is complete usually 12-14 eggs. So that would be two weeks to get clutch together and then I think 28 days to hatch. So to get 6 week birds you would need 12 weeks or three months basically.

45-55 days from the time they find a nest site to hatch. With this stretch of heat and dry weather...at least in the Abilene area, it will be interesting to see if any decide to attempt a nest if the weather conditions are favorable for a while.

The incubation time is 23 to 24 days. I once saw what was two different clutches of feral quail across from my house. Each clutch was led by a rooster. My guess was that the hen was tending a third nest.
