Used to be an annual trip for me and the boys but mine are no longer eligible. Love that place.

Working cows this weekend and counted 16 in just an hour on the back of the horse. Nothing will chill you more than hearing that buzz and not being able to see the suckers.

My college roommate got bit at his house last week southeast of amarillo. Nasty little buggers and they're thick this year. I don't think I'll be galavanting all over the countryside with my hounds until we get a good freeze.

Maybe you signature line needs a qualifier Panhandler peep

Regardless of where folks are heading on youth weekend, good hunting and be safe. Chaps, Gators, and snake boot will definately be the order of the day.

Don't forget the other warm weather bird hunting nemesis...keep an eye on the dogs and don't let them get overheated! Many of us and our dogs are couch and crate potatoes through the spring and summer. They will get overheated quickly in this 70 - 80 deferred weather.

Looks like you may get a pass on the rain for the weekend, but you might want to take the tow straps, shovels, chains, and come-alongs. It looks like the roads may be extra challenging if they get the forecasted rain on Thursday

Be safe all

What kind of horses were they riding?

Hey gang,
I'm headed to Matador for GDE draw hunt next week. I have never been and would love some pointers. I know it's not bird hunting but you fellas probably know the place the best. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

What animal you chasing???

Re: Matador This Weekend - 11/05/15 03:06 AM

Whitetail deer only. Can shoot yotes and pigs. I'll be looking for a big buck, then hunt the dogs! Don't care about hogs.

We're staying in Paducah at hunters lodge. Thinking of hunting the nw pasture. What are your thoughts?

Re: Matador This Weekend - 11/05/15 03:16 AM

We only seen mule deer the entire time we were there. But from the bull pasture all the way to the river looked really nice once you get off the Designated road, either side of it looked really good...

Re: Matador This Weekend - 11/08/15 01:59 PM

Some of the open pasture has cover so higher that you couldn't see a whitetail unless it was walking on stilts.

They've bulldozed the mesquite in a few areas, giving a mix of cover that whitetail can probably move in.
