Are all quail leases this expensive?

I apologize in advance for my lack of knowledge in this area, but does anyone just lease out their land for quail hunting without providing meals and dogs and all this? I have a dog, I can walk 20+ miles in a day and carry everything I'd need, I don't need a gator to cart me around, or someone to cook me fried chicken. That's stuff sounds real nice, but I can't drop 2,500 on a lease and stay married. Do I need to give up on upland game and just stick with doves and ducks on public land?

Where ya at matador, i might have a place for you that might fit what you want. But yeah most serious quail guys from the info ive been provided hunt large spreads and are not cheap at all.

You forgot about the lodge, guides, bird cleaning and packaging

A $2,500 Quail lease won't get you any of those things, just land & maybe a place to stay. And a good lease is worth every penny. Deer hunting was costing me alot more to be honest with you. I had to choose between the two and Quail hunting won. Of course that decision was made in 04 when birds were thick.

I'm still looking for the right place, but the money some folks have asked and the distance I would have to drive, I just can't do it....

I am up near Denton, but had planned on driving west to quail hunt.

Also, the chances of me going out more than 3/4 times the whole season are low because I know i'll have to drive.

Try NSTRA. It beats staying at home. They also need judges. You can judge one day and run one day,and its free.

Welcome to texas! You must be new here. Hunting in tx is all about money!

Public hunting opportunities in Texas are limited. Doubly so for upland hunting.

Most of the land in the state is privately owned, so to hunt on it you need to own it or know the owner or pay.

There are a few public spots for quail but they get significant pressure. Look them up on the tpwd website.

There are decent public opportunities for woodcock in east Texas. Google will help you.

If you are willing to pay, set a budget, even if it's 500 bucks.

Find a small lease that is within your budget that lets you hunt all game on the lease and is in quail country. It is doubtful that there will be any big time quail hunters of big time anything hunters on such a lease. The big timers don't want to mess with small acreages. Enjoy your lease and get to know the other folks on it. Get a bigger lease when you budget allows. I've paid between 100 to 2500 for a variety of leases...everything from day leases to full season quail leases.
