Last quail hunt of the season

Last quail hunt of the season - 02/27/13 02:58 AM

Wasn't what we went after, but at the end of the day it was nearly as good. Didn't even see or hear a quail, but any day in the field or on the water is better than a day at work.

Daddy said not to ever shoot a rabbit in front of your bird dog. I think if dad was here today he would have a change of mind.Good luck next season and we all might have to hunt the bunny.

Brings back a memory : My Dad was a meat hunter, who raised a family during the thirties and forties. We lived on cottontails and wild game and whatever else he could scrounge up.
I admonished him one time( in the seventies) for shooting cottontails over my pointing dogs for the same reason and he told me " I like the rabbit as well to eat as any quail and there is more meat for the same cost and if that dog points a rabbit , I'm gonna shoot it"
It didn't bother the dog and she did point cottontails and jack rabbits all her life.
P.S. I still like rabbit to this day, in fact I went rabbit hunting in the snow yesterday.
Didn't see a one or a quail either.

I wasn't hunting with a dog, probably why we didn't see any quail.

Just about anything goes down with a little Montreal Steak seasoning.
