Boats - 01/30/23 02:21 PM
If any of you ever met me you would know by now I am a boat wh*re. If there is a boat for sale I am the guy you try to sell it to. When I bought the pontoon to make the ducktoon with I brought it home. Later my wife came home and asked whose boat is by the barn. I said its yours and all I got was "Kewl, does it run". So fast forward to when I got the pontoon barge. I originally traded a week in my condo for a free pontoon boat with a rotten deck and a trailer. My original intent was to load the barge and just tow it out there. Note to others, that was a sucky idea at best. It does not work well and is about as inefficient as it gets. So I Frankensteined the motor, leaning post and the console. The console came from Louisiana about 100 yards from the Exxon where Troy Landry and his boys get coffee and gas every morning. I stripped the trailer and had it hot dipped galvanized, new axles and tires and galvanized rims. I put 70 hour on it in no time. It has become the most essential piece of equipment I have for this build on the island. My wife won't let me do it but I have threatened to sell the Explorer boat, the airboat and the ducktoon and use this barge only. This thing can carry a stupid amount of weight. Remember it was designed to have all the heavy furniture ect on top. The heaviest load I had on it was before the motor and all. I put 5000 lbs of concrete on it. That didn't go so hot and we had to abort that mission. Once it hit a wave, it would not longer stay afloat. I had my buddy holding a very sharp knife. I told him to cut the rope if anything starts getting out of control. Its too late to make this a short stroy so all in all. I am an absolute fan of this rig. It has become my all time favorite boat.
