2022 Dove - 02/09/22 10:55 PM

may try and get a hunt in this year. I hope it's better than last year. From what i remember it was pretty lackluster.

if anyone had an exceptional hunt, run professionally, list it here please.

I'm wondering about once they migrate back up this way what kind of native bird nesting year we'll have. The last couple of years has been pretty bad. Hopefully the conditions will be good and reproduction numbers up. I may have to break down and head to south Texas for good numbers. So unpredictable.

I hunted public. Managed my first daily limit in south zone. I really like Stompy's business model. He tells it like it is and if I go on a guided hunt for dove, that's where I would go.

I have seen nothing but positive posts about ranger creek, seems like they always have birds, any reports from them last year? If they didn’t have birds last year, it would be a first from what I have seen.

I’ve been hunting with Ranger Creek for the last 5 years. They always put you on the birds. Limits every time. This year was different as there just weren’t many birds around. They always work hard and are straight up about expectations.

Been selling dove hunts for 21 years and last year was the worst I've seen. Been turning dove fields the past several days and seeing some good groups of birds, I'm hopeful for this year. Just need spring rains to get the sunflowers up.

I've had good hunts with dry creek outfitters, Muddy water outfitters and deked down outfitters out of witchita falls.

I think I'm going to make a trip down to brewster bird hunts this year.

Re: 2022 Dove - 02/20/22 01:10 PM

Definitely the poorest dove season on record for me; had one decent hunt in south Texas early in season but after that - lucky to kill 1 or 2 when usually limits prevailed
Hope this year for a return to normalcy

Fingers crossed for good nesting spring weather. We'll be there opening weekend Stompy. I know if anybody's got birds you will.

I don't care what the state says, the big freeze last year put a hurt on 'em. Slowest season in a long time.

Hoping for a rebound this year.

That's my opinion too. And other than a few bright spots out west, it was overall the worst season I remember since I started hunting in the early 80s.

It was the worst ever.

I have a group of doves on my place now that have been hanging around since the end of dove season. The group is growing each time I go out there. First count was 8 last count was 25.

Got our field turned over and replanted some milo about 30 days ago... Not a drop of rain on it since.

Not starting off great.

Stompy, to your credit, you told it exactly like it was from the moment I arrived . . . mother nature threw everyone a knuckleball, you did not inflate anyone's expectations. The fields you provided were perfect - mother nature just had other plans.

Even so, I still put together 2 limits. I will be back for sure!

Sunflowers came in good this year but they're only 2-4" tall. Need some good rains very soon and a lot of it. This may be the driest Spring I've encountered yet. Had 2 good storms just miss me a couple of weeks ago. Got 1 pond almost dried up...can you imagine ponds drying up during Spring?

Scholes.

Hope we m all get some rain. We had no ponds 9 years ago. 2013 was driest ever for us and record dove since we had only water on a solar pump around for miles. SW of Nocona. Was crazy amount of dove. Once rains hit, nothing.

Dangit. I was hoping you got those. Maybe you'll get the next rains.

Thanks, she has made dove hunting fun again, she holds those dove so nicely. My other girl Molly (RIP 2015), she was hell on dove, she would bite holes in the breast. Pic below, you can see blood squirting out the bottom left side of the dove. It got to a point I just stopped taking her dove hunting, she was just a duck dog. She was a pretty girl tho...
