Doves and weather

Doves and weather - 09/11/21 03:45 PM

I’m no stranger to dove hunting, but I’m usually done after opening day. I’ve rarely had much success on the days I’ve hunted later in the season. I’m hoping to change that this year, and I think weather will be a factor I can use to my advantage if I can get smart on the subject.

Do migrating doves follow cool fronts south or do the cool fronts push them south? And what sort of temp change usually encourages the birds to head south? Will a couple of degrees do it or is it normally only the big temp swings that get them moving?

And one question for the real nerds: does barometric pressure seem to have any influence on dove behavior?
