The usually "colored" feathers near a ducks body on the outside of the wing are called the speculum...no the the gynecologist's tool...gadwalls are the only puddle ducks with a white speculum.

Beautiful Gadwall Drake. I think they are severely underrated in their beauty.

I like the way they commit. Rarely circling around making you work for it. Just straight down to the dekes first pass.
