I miss Brazosboyt’s posts - 11/28/20 02:20 AM

I miss opening up his threads and seeing his double banded woodie/pintail hybrids, or whatever all the other random ducks he would get and mount. Lurking and not posting? Or gone forever?

Been around but haven’t posted much anywhere in the last year. I’m At that midlife point where work, kids, aging parents/in-laws chew up a lotta time. Got distracted by the Ronas early spring and never really got around to sharing last season.

Boys are 13 and 16 and have turned into a hard working part of our team.
They’ve been to AK with me 3x but this was their first hunt. We went and stayed with friends for 10 days and got after it DIY style as a guest in remote AK.

Welcome to anchorage.

I’ve learned over the last 15 years of traveling to the remote islands in the aleutians that you better get e writhing you need in your carryon cause it’s a 50/50 shot of checked bags making it. Guns must travel by law.

Everything for a week fit into backpacks and gun cases.

The big bulls had all dropped antlers but we did bring some great sheds home. Both boy shot a first year bull per the request of the tribal Council and got to see what it’s like to pack an animal out over 2 miles on your back.

When the Rona hit and school shut down at spring break it freed up a lot of evening and weekend time from all of the chaos of sports and school. I made a personal commitment to spend absolutely as much time as I could with the family.

I took the kids taxidermy teaching to the next level and they took in 20 birds this summer and made some really good side money. I may have created a issue because we were expecting Brady to get a job in the summer when he turns 16 and he recently asked me why the hell would he go work for eight dollars an hour when he can make a full weeks wages off of one duck.

They will be taking in about 20 ducks after the season if anybody needs amount in Central Texas. 275 for Ducks, 325 for geese

Here’s five that we finished up last weekend. I still have to help them with a little bit of the final positioning but all in all they can do about 90% of it by themselves.

Last winter we sold a 30 acre piece of one of our farms for more than double what we paid for the whole 110 acres. Good to have Partners in real estate that want to keep building on that. Took the money and bought another farm right across from two big Soil conservation lakes with a drain area that was perfect for creating a new ten acre wetland.

With this project and a couple more coming in the near future we decided to go ahead and buy a bulldozer, track loader, roller, excavator, and off-road truck. we decided to make this a division of our land development company and I’m hoping it grows to the point where it’s all I have to do that I can quit stop ****ing with building structural product. I can afford all the equipment because I have such a good cheap labor.

Even mama makes a pretty good diesel mechanic hand

Just need a 3”rain now.

Finished this one up on my farm at the end of the summer and put water on it with the last rain.

Until the wetland development side of the business gets big enough we have moved full speed vertically into the site and utility development side of our developing company. This is A beast of a project. 240 units of multi family that we are building to keep and 145 presold lots to regional builder. Now I just need creepy Joe not to wreck the ****ing economy for at least two years.

It’s gonna be a good year. First time in 9 years my main lake stayed full all summer. I’ve got 40 acre of thigh deep water that is solid coin tail, musk grass, and long leaf pond weed. We had 1000s of birds come in this morning.

Best part: they got all the gear together, did the work, ant cleaned birdss.

We took our shotguns with us knowing we would have a chance to set up in the mornings and hopefully get a couple of Harlequinn’s. We were successful at that and almost [censored] ourselves when we had a flock of kings passed 30 yards off the shore. We knocked down five.

Gave a 28 gauge a salt water baptism.

You shooting tss with that 28?
How do you like the Tristar? I've heard good things about it

Rio bismuth out of the 28 for sea ducks. I shoot federal target steel 6s locally and it’s a dang good load.

So far so good with the Tri-star. I’ve run about 3 cases through it in the last two years with no problems and have yet to clean it.
