Even after all the stoopid chit I've witnessed on public land, folks will still bash you for not wanting to hunt with strangers. The circle of trust is small for a reason.

2 years ago I was walking out after a hunt and stopped to talk to 2 guys that were “hunting” about 100yds from the parking lot. 1 guy had his shotgun sling over his should and while we were talking reached back to adjust the stock. Apparently he hit the trigger because the gun discharged with the barrel right behind his head and knocked it off his shoulder into the water. I don’t like to be rude but I value my safety more than other hunters feelings. No hunting with others for me

Yep crazy.... i have buddies I won't hunt with bc of poor gun safety. I'll fish with them but we aren't getting around guns together anymore. its crazy how many people are out there with no sense of muzzle control and common sense

All good comments. Poor guy. Also some people, especially newbs, just get so desperate to shoot a bird they will shoot at anything, and swing on you, shoot over your head....Reminds me of Dick Cheney shooting his freind quail hunting, carelessly swinging on a bird, probably pumped up with adrenaline.... Remember it is just a duck.

I know a guy that’s was peppered in the face while quail hunting. I wasn’t there, but he told me he yelled at the shooter afterwards “ Do I look like a ****ing quail?”

that why I trained my son and his best friend when they were about 10. They are 23 now and solid hunting buddies. They are also excellent mules and scouts.

Esh and Hattie, I had to laugh because it sounded like you meant the guys head came off his shoulder and went into the water! I guess that wouldn't be funny though.

I got peppered in the face last weekend. A group of guests from Dallas came down to dove hunt. I've hunted with this group once before and I had basic gun safety issues with a few of them, one ol' boy was drunk and pointed a loaded pistol at me on accident while I was getting ready to take them out rabbit hunting one night. I snatched the gun out of his hand and made him stay at camp, unarmed. Really, really ticked me off. Anyway, this time I was extra cautious around this bunch. I had my 6 & 9 yr olds hunting with me, so my plan was to hunt wherever these guys were not. If that meant less birds, then so be it. Safety first, especially with my kids there. I hunted close to the camp house because no one was hunting there, and my little girl would be closer to a bathroom. The three of us were hunting there then all of a sudden BAM, right in the face. I had a hat & glasses on so that helped but I still took some bb's to the face and it stung pretty good. My little girl got hit in the leg and said "OW DAD what was that?". I don't normally cuss in front of my kids but the words "F*** MAN ARE YOU SERIOUS, HEY YOU F****** DUMB A** WE'RE SITTING RIGHT HERE WHERE EVERYONE CAN SEE US!!!!! YOU JUST SHOT US!" came out of my mouth. I took off his direction to handle up on the situation only to find that it was one of the Land Owners that decided to get out of bed and shoot some birds at the house. He took a shot at a low flier and said he didn't see us. I've been peppered plenty over the years, but peppering my little girl was what really ticked me off. This wasn't even getting peppered, we were directly in the background of the bird he was shooting at. That stings more than getting peppered. I'm not taking my kids back there until there is no one there. Good Lord.

You were too kind Skinner land owner or not. I wouldn't have went back or most likely been invited back when I got thru.
