I haven't been out to check

I was gone all last weekend from Thursday until Sunday.

We were supposed to go this morning but both my hunting buddies bailed on me..

I should have gone solo

So this property hasnt been hunted since opening day and it's a crying shame!

Yeah the way teal come and go, need to shoot them while they are here.

There are more Teal here this year then I have seen in my life.
But how to hunt them?

To set the stage, I live an hour north of Peace River Alberta Canada, in the heart of the Great Boreal forest. There is some farm land here and some small ponds and sloughs but no large marshes or lakes. The largest body of water around is the Peace River. It's 3/4 of a mile wide and it's closed to hunting until November.

I have floaters in Mallard and Pintail plus a couple dozen Canada Goose field shells but nothing even close to Teal size. Plus here they seem to prefer small bodies of water surrounded by forest. Not easy to access and even harder to retrieve from. I don't have a hunting dog.

I know of one place where I can hunt them, but it's as challenging as any hunting I've seen, read about or dreamed of.

It's a large slough (about forty acres) half a mile from the Peace River. The ducks come in off the river at last light, skimming inches above the slough grass to small, "think ten square feet", ponds in the slough were they spend the night.
To hunt them one stands out towards the middle of the slough and tries to pass shoot them. No decoys, no blind, just stand there and wait. The problem is you seldom see them before they are within 40 paces of you and they are on a flight path that will take them past you within a few feet. So you have like a few fractions of a second to aim and fire or they are gone.

Last time I tried hunting them I burned up a box of ammo to bag two birds. To put that in prospective, when I'm field hunting geese or ducks over decoys my average is 16 birds for one box of ammo.

I have never seen teal land in stubble so the only way I know to hunt them is that one slough.

Outstanding- we shot birds every hunt opening weekend thru that Tuesday- haven’t seen one scouting my places since. We were stacked up early, but high water pushed them off. See what happens tomorrow
