SBE II, work horse gun...

SBE II, work horse gun... - 08/17/20 10:49 PM

Got it's annual cleaning today, going on 13 years. The more I abuse this gun the better it performs. Never had an issue with light loads I hear so many talk about, maybe too much pampering/oil?

Mine is the same age as yours but doesn't show it as badly.

Just brought the SBE2 home from the lease to lend out to a client when we go out for dove. My SBE3 is my go to now. Light loads don't affect either

YES!!!! Just had mine done this year. Sent it to Rob Roberts in Arkansas. My gun was 10 years old and after years of red river mud, and throwing it in the bottom of boats. It needed it! Looks like a brand new gun now!

Ha ha, yes and no.

Yes I do not worry about cosmetics for both. I do not worry about scratching my truck and I won't lose much sleep over a dent either. Same with my boat.

No on moving parts... My truck and boat, motor and all moving parts I pamper and take care of, my SBEII it is just not needed or a concern.

I'm not a shotgun guy. Never been good with one, and don't really have a lot of interest in 'em. That said, I carry my 357 blackhawk all over the ranch. Shoot it, beat it, It looks awful on the outside. Holster wear, grips look terrible...but I take care of the inside. It has killed more pigs and snakes than all of my other firearms combined. I would never think if refinishing it. It shows years of use and abuse at my side. And I like it that way.

I like the worn look because it tells the story of what the gun has been through. I just had mine cerakoted after 15 years because I was tired of surface rust.

I have zero rust on my SBEII, And I clean it with a water hose first pass. Here is what I do:

* I drop the action and trigger mechanize out. I used to breakdown the action down, but not any more. Drop both in zip lock bag with hoppes # 9, soak and shake, comes out sparkling clean.
* Rest of gun, high pressure water hose to start to get the big stuff off, hoppes # 9 in magazine and rest..
* Run snake thru barrel with hoppes # 9.

It will get a little oil, haven't put any on it yet.

Good idea! I will use this. I bet you can recover the hoppe's #9 by cutting a corner of the zip lock bag and putting it back in the bottle.

I do reuse it to clean the rest of the gun, mainly pouring it in the magazine, over and over, that is what than pan is for in the pic I posted. By the time I'm done, the hoppe's is pretty dirty and needs to be discard.

Leave it just like it is.

That Benelli will be running when most semiautos will be choking.

Just my .02,

SBEs are great guns. I have an older Benelli M2 that is a workhorse, but my go to is the Beretta 391 Xtrema2
