concrete sand for doves ??? - 05/23/20 03:32 PM

I always have doves on my gravel road, I"m looking at dumping a load of concrete sand ( it is coarser than regular sand) in my dove field , anyone ever tried that ?

My great uncle used to fill his big tractor pulled fertilizer spreader with course sand and hit any bare spots and roads between the stock tanks and the roosting spots.

Had a great hunting spot just East of Taylor, right at the right of way, trains would side and then drop sand for friction to start up...killed doves as they came in to land along the tracks, for grit !!!

I put one yard of the grit ( that's about all my truck could hold) next to my pond yesterday --------- will put a game camera on it to see if they come,, if they do I will put a dump truck load between the 2 grain fields.

Having sand laying in random spots on a property, sure. Hunting over obviously placed sand is another question, depends on your GW

Not what I expected -------- went out yesterday - this is near Troy, Tx., between Temple and Waco, too wet to be able to get to one of my feeders to move one of the Browning cameras that I have, so I still dont have a camera on the grit/sand ---- BUT there were Turkey tracks thru the sand . ---------- I didnt see that coming, but it makes sense.

Read the title & thought you were trying to weigh them down so they wouldn't fly so fast. hammer

We filled a low area with sand on a private road or trail to our hunting camp in young county. Dove have been graveling on that section ever since. Killed several there over the years. I may add to it this year. Much of the visible sand is gone now.
