Rio Steel shot - 11/21/19 03:25 AM
Anybody used the 3” Rio steel shot?
Been shooting a bunch of Rio shells for this years clays leagues and thinking about ordering some of the steel shot.
Will definitely head to the patterning board first, but wanted to check with my THF folks before buying.
Thanks!!

Shot a box 2 or 3 years ago. Was pretty dirty.

I bought several cases two years ago on sale, they work just fine for me, no complaints

I have only shot Rio Steel 6's for Teal and they did great. I just prefer Hevi Steel for big ducks.

I have shot a lot of Canada geese over decoys with the Royal Blue steel 3” 1 1/4 oz #3’s @ 1400 FPS with no complaints. I use an over under so being dirty isn’t something I noticed or that impacts performance. Through modified invector plus chokes in my Citori the patterns are dense and tight.

I've used the lead with great results for clays and dove, but after ordering a case of the steel a couple years back, I won't be hunting big ducks with their steel any more. Was dirty and the pattern wasn't consistent. Changed back to my old shells and started knocking birds down again. Went and white papered it a few times and the patterns just aren't consistent. IMHO stay away from the steel shot.
