Hevi-X Sale - 11/19/19 08:13 PM

PSA, FleetFarm has 3” Hevi-X on sale for about $27 a box online. Say what you want about the marketing, but $30/box shipped is a steal for these .

Hevi-steel gets it done everyday. Why pay that price unless you can’t shoot.

Great, so don’t buy it and enjoy the satisfaction of killing your limit daily with 3 old Herters decoys and your single shot 410. But please only use the smallest steel possible to get the job done at 28yds, because we all know, if you take shots longer than that, you don’t know how to duck hunt.

Hevi X Is good stuff. I had almost ordered these shells off that website a few weeks ago and then read some bad reviews about that retailer and was reluctant to purchase. Has anyone ever ordered the stuff online from them. I like Hevi X though!

Shalor, I have never ordered from them and had it shipped. I am familiar with FleetFarm from growing up in the upper midwest. It's basically Tractor Supply of the north. They do usually have good sale prices on hunting stuff, and anything I've ever ordered has been correct for pickup.

I wouldn't buy anything Hevi, deceitful is not a marketing scheme I care to play with.

But, you knock yourself out.

No, because I am not selling anything. Just trying to let others know the deal out there. From the responses, that seems to be a poor idea.

Nah man you did good giving out a PSA. Sorry about my reply earlier can see the Hevi shot for geese just think it’s overkill for decoying ducks. Thanks anyway!

It is not a slam on you it is all on Environmetal, they chose to purposefully deceive their customers, and then lie to cover it up, make unsubstantiated claims and use deceptive statistics to substantiate these claims. I don't care if their crap was a dollar a box, I wouldn't buy it.

I have 3 cases of the old heavier than lead 28ga loads, when they are gone, I will switch full time to TSS. There's 56lbs floating around here.

Hevi X has pellets of compressed tungsten powder and a polymer. Like plastic or who knows what with that company. A forum member here once posted a picture of an environmental shell they cut open and it had live bugs in the buffer which was flax seed. From one review... "due to the non-uniform shot size of Hevi-X, the “No. 2” pellets I measured varied in mass from 2.7 grains all the way up to 7.5 grains". That has got to play hell on the shot string. What you get on the pattern board is not what you get on a fast moving target with a mix of odd shapes and sizes of shot. I'll pass on this one too. Never been a fan of Environmental. They have been real deceptive via emails in the past when asked questions about certain loads. Not a fan of mixed or stacked loads for waterfowl either. The density of the Hevi X loads supposedly is about the same as bismuth, but again who knows what is really in their shells. Now show me some straight bismuth loads like Kent on a good sale and you will have my interest.

totally agree w E & H. Great deal. You shoot these because you have less cripples and a lot more knockdown power. No comparison to heavy steel everything except for heavy shot is a joke compared to these or other tungsten loads. If you shoot big water with potential for lost cripples, these loads or steel alternatives are the better choice.

I have killed Stone Dead 90% plus of all ducks YTD. We have lost less than 5% out of 70 YTD this year in my blind hunting 2-4 guns. Those were heavy steel and Kent birds. 50-60 yard stone dead-if you can shoot that is- reality with this load. We prefer to shoot them in the face at 10 yards but occasionally you have to take a longer bird.

"Heavy Steel" aka Hevi Steel is steel shot with flax seed buffer. There is no tungsten in it and nothing heavy about it. What size steel shot are you using for those 90% stone cold dead 60 yard shots?

Re: Hevi-X - 11/24/19 08:38 PM

You misunderstood my thread. I know what heavy steel are- was comparing their range vs heavy x. Far inferior once you get outside of 30-40 yards

Only needed to shoot at a few beyond 30 yards this year. I shoot 4s 3inch w IC most of the time. Normally shoot 3s and I have no problem w heavy steel- first I’ve heard about the inconsistency of loads per shell -I have shot these at patterning boards before including heavy X And I have not seen any of the inconsistency you’re talking about besides the normal choking -gun issues/ ie some shotguns handle certain loads better than others hands patterning your load

Bottom line -the tungsten mix is superior to less expensive loads

You get what you pay for. They claim 50% more knockdown power at 60 yards and I am a true believer- have witnessed it myself many times
