The common duck

The common duck - 02/08/19 01:45 PM

I got to wondering about how the ducks spread across the state during the migration and wanted to get everyone to list what county they hunt in and what duck they saw most this season. For me, it was wood ducks and bw teal in Waller county, and hands down wood ducks in Cass county.

I saw a mix of everything between West central Tx and Sulphur Springs and up into Ok. The most definitive difference from last year was I saw way fewer gadwall this year.

Shot more widgeon this year than any other bird and saw more than I’ve ever seen. Usually it’s gadwall and ringnecks. Didn’t see many gadwalls at all and didn’t see nearly the amount of ringnecks I usually do.

Wise county.

I ran across the Texas Waterfowl Strategic Plan while looking for where the texas duck stamp fund goes. At the end of this document are graphs by year, species, and region of Texas for duck population surveys done from 1997 to 2011.
