Success in New Places

Success in New Places - 12/17/18 06:35 PM

It was a special weekend indeed. Headed north to hunt some public lands for the first time. First off was a secluded timber pothole. Definitely felt an adrenaline rush walking in to hear the woodies were roosted up. Managed 2 beautiful drakes. Lost a mallard drake and missed chances on 2 other mallards. Birds came in deadlocked and I was not expecting such a little hole to produce. Consider it bookmarked for a rest and revisit next month. Saturday and Sunday I headed even further north to a lottery hunt at an area I will now consider a jewel of Texas. Impressive amounts of birds and TPWD staff were excellent hosts. An experience I look forward to having again someday.

You don't have the new spot locator app? Load a pic and it searches google earth for you...

Awesome hunts. Pretty sure I know of other folks that hunted where you did the second day, and everyone had great success. up

Thanks guys! It's always rewarding when you put in the time/effort researching, take the initiative to hunt somewhere new, and kill a few birds. Looking forward to finding a few more birds before the season ends!

Finding a new spot that produces birds is what I love most. The hunt for the spot is almost as much fun as the actual hunt itself.
