We Are Ready ....

We Are Ready .... - 08/31/18 03:35 AM

Sunflowers are in good shape, already dropping seeds. My milo fields are almost ready, expecting them to be hard dough by opening day. Hooking up the discs and shredder next week to make the final touches.

Ponds are all pumped and holding water. This year we have water very close to most of our fields. Should make for some great evening shoots.

I took these pictures today while I was scouting in the Batesville/ Uvalde area. We looked at 13 fields, I didn't have a chance to take pictures of all of them because we were running out of daylight. Saturday starts our season, we will post pictures of the damage later!

nice, but unless you put a combine in there you're illegal...
shredding is verboten on planted fields..
shredding is OK after harvest, tho...
tricky set of rules

Seriously... Dove are not ducks... The law:

"Hunting over a field or food plot that has been manipu-
lated by shredding, burning or windrowing is legal for dove
hunting but not for waterfowl. For doves, you can do any-
thing to the crop except harvest and redistribute it onto the
same field."

Normal Agricultural Practice also applies. Wind breaks, commercially harvested sunflowers. I deal with this every year and I know the game wardens very well. Thanks for your input Mr internet Gamewarden.

Milo will be harvested in October, so will the sunflowers. I have a close friend that is a Fed GW and I know several game wardens in the area. We aren't breaking the law, I can assure you.

And who said I was shredding and discing the crops? We shred the turn rows and disc around our ponds. Nothing illegal about that.

Pictures from Saturday morning. Sunflower field on the edge of Uvalde. Field backs up to hwy 90, central zone. My guide reported that it was pretty quiet other than the guys shooting in our field. Birds were predominately mourning dove. Looking forward to next weekends shoot, fields are resting until Saturday.

I was just joking with you, I should have put "lol" r "haha" . The Gw stopped by Sunday and check on everyone. We always are in accordance with the law, too many things at stake not to be. Thanks for following the post up

Awesome. Looks like good hunts.

You can mow the field down if you wanted for dove.

We will be shredding strips next week, shredding around the ponds and preparing the final touches on our camps.

Looks good! Really interesting that it was mostly mourning dove. Where did the Uvalde whitewings go????

I don't know because the fields we hunted mostly mourning and eurasions, and we hunt right on the edge of Uvalde.

it was 70/30 mourning to WW. We are finding more white wings in the South Zone fields that we have near Batesville which is about 20 miles away. Hopefully this weather we have moving in will push birds out of North Tx into South Tx.

Landowner just recorded a major change in bird numbers in our Batesville fields. Looks like the weather pushed some down.
