I trust the weather people about as much as I would trust an ex-wife.

The more I keep up with the forecast the more i realize they really have no clue further out than a couple days.

With temperatures i think it's more predictable but rain chances change daily all the way up to the day before.

But, but, but... the weather guy showed a growing big red blob on a map of the Pacific.

Either way, every season is about adapting. Figure it out and roll with the flow.

We need water for quail, not ducks ------- if it is dry in central Tx., and a lot of the ponds dry up --it concentrates the ducks in the ones that are left. Makes for better duck hunting here.

That rain a few weeks ago resulted in the best North TX early teal hunt I've had since the last El Niño.

So far they are looking pretty spot on on the forecast.

I just hope the cold and snow keep coming up north...

Re: It's back: El Niño expected later this year, forecasters say - 10/16/18 11:46 PM

with all of the flooded/wet standing grain north of us now, we could be in for some low numbers of grain eating ducks and geese if it doesn't get cut. Only thing we could pray for is some serious snow in the mid west if it doesn't get cut. temps won't matter much if there's grain available, they'll find water somewhere

They'll get here. When it's wet, west is best. Panhandle will be loaded up this year.

Can you explain this? What's out west that they like, especially with as dry as it is up there this year.

I won't guess as to why, but there is a very clear pattern based on TX regional duck counts going back to the 80's.

I thought it had been wet in West Texas this year?

Ponds all looked full and tons of grain on the ground when I was out there last week.

The panhandle down to Odonnell is full of birds!

Is that pattern a secret? I know nothing about ducks, trying to learn, hence the questions.

Brady buck, the panhandle up by Amarillo is still extremely dry, but I'd assume there's grain as always.
