Won’t be long now. - 06/15/18 03:29 AM

Counting the days. All the hours on the tractor in jan, feb, March, April, and May will be worth it in a few weeks.

Field 1 is a natig vrestoration project of native sunflowers. 2 years of plowing the natives under. Plow in December and Plow in feb and spray grass with intensity/herbimax in April and June. 40 acre Field is 60% re-established and should be 100% next year. Overdrilled witj 15 lbs/acre of peredovik seed for a killer understory and y’all natives. After that, continue plow schedule and fertilize every third year.

Field 2. This 5 acre field was Plowed March 1. Sprayed with roundup at 24 oz/acre March 24 to kill all growth. Peredovik sunflowers drilled at 15 lbs/acre. #14 setting on the JD 8400 drill. Sprayed with 24 oz/acre of intensity and 6.4 oz/acre herbimax for johnson/grass control late May.

Field three- 4 acre dove buffet!!!

Plowed/planted in wheat/oats in October. Replowed in March with no spray. Drilled peredovik with 5 lbs/acre giant sunflower mixed in in March. Sprayed herbimax/intensity late May. Great mix of peredovik, native, giant SF, and wheat. Dove buffet. Field was loaded with white wings today.

When do you normally start shredding yours? I leave my peredovik standing because the white wings prefer to stand on them and pick seeds out. This is my first year to have a great stand of natives.

I start cutting lanes about 20 days before season. Then when season starts I'll cut a few more about every third week. By the time season is over the fields are 75% cut down.

This is a problem. I’ve got about 500 white wings hitting the fields 2x/day. They sit on the heads pick the seed. I may not have much left by September 1.
