Bird Hitch for teal and smaller ducks

Anyone here use the Bird Hitch? Saw a video on it and wonder how it works on teal and smaller birds that we shoot in Texas

Does it even work? Or another gimmick for duck hunting?

It does not work very well on smaller birds at all. It does work very well on geese and cranes for sure though.

Unless you are traveling with birds or on a multiple day hunt it is pointless. It is much easier to just cut the breast meat out when you get to your house if that is an option.

watched the video over it... there is no time that is saved or anything that make the product useful.

I reckon I'm pretty sure that I was cleaning birds before you were even borned.

As stated, its nice for when your situation dictates leaving a wing on for transport and have limited cooler space to store birds when you are on an extended trip.

Small birds are a bit tricky. The newer H2 model is better on Big Birds. If cranes or geese have a broken wing, it makes it a bit tougher. They can all be done on it though. Beats a sharp knofe or shears for legal transport.

Of course, just breasting them out after you reach home is a lot easier, but it isn't always an option

Im still not following how you need a knife or sheers to breast a bird and leave the wings on... and none takin I respect my elders... everyones got their own way

If there is a way to seperate a goose or crane breast with wing attached, that is faster than a bird hitch, without a knife or shears....I'd be all ears on this method.

It would take someone hell for stout to do so, unless there is a trick that I've missed.

The worst part of the hitch is the mess of gut, hide, feathers and blood that has to be cleaned off.

Yea I would be interested in that method as well. Hell it would be hard to breast out a mallard and leave a wing on without a knife or shears.

Yes the guts do make a mess as well. I forgot about that.

Stand on the wings and pull the feet. I know dang good and well you have done this.

only on bigger birds that is needed... mallards aint nothing but hand on the collar bone then pinching a hole at the bottom of the breast pull up on the feet and poof... wings and breast

I do the same thing quick and easy with very little mess. Here's a video of what they're talking about.

I use the bird hitch everyday I guide. Have for about 4 years. It is SUPER awesome when clients have to transport their birds back home. We don't bring it out during Teal season but it is a life saver for anything bigger than teal.

I cleaned about 80 teal last weekend and used the hitch on all of them. Not really because I need it, but mainly because it is there at the cleaning shed. I am probably just as quick without it when it comes to teal. Especially when they have broken wings!

It is definitely most helpful on big ducks and geese. On teal it's not really necessary.
