Dove Hunting Tip of the Day
Let's get some dove tips on here to make everyone's dove season a little more enjoyable.
Tip 1:
If you're right handed, your snuff needs to go on the left.
If you're left handed, your snuff needs to go on the right.
Not doing this will spread cancer... all around your mouth.

When you shoot a dove that falls into high grass go pick it up before you shoot another one.

it's really not even hunting
if there are dove you shoot them, if there aren't any dove you drink beer.
More of a pastime really, like baseball.

Shotgunning dove and shotgunning beer is a completely different concept.
You can shotgun 15 dove in a day, but there is no limit to beer.

The only time I've ever worn a shooting glove was in Argentina to keep from burning my hand on the barrel

I could maybe shotgun 15 beers in a legal shooting light day and not be drunk. But I would be drinking other beers too, so I'd be over the legal limit

When brushing in your dove blind use natural brush trimmings from the area, lots cheaper than buying the fake stuff. A good lay-out blind for dove is more effective than a conventional blind but lay-outs can be hot this time of year.

Do people really hunt out of a dove blind? Lol
I prefer a huge monstrosity of a blind. Thinking about taking an old truck with no motor I came across. I'll put a big varmint rack in the back. I'll then wire up whole mesquite trees to the sides. Dove will never know what hit em.

Re: Dove Hunting Tip of the Day - 09/03/15 12:16 AM
I only dove hunt out of a blind if I don't have my ghillie suit on. Sometimes I'll wear the ghillie suit in the blind too. I like bradybuck's idea of an elevated dove blind.
I see them guys sitting around on truck tail gates in their golf shirts "hunting" and I think, pfffft freaking amateurs....
Switch your mojo wings around, left on right and right on left, doves come in on that hard.
Only shoot dove when wings are down and approach in threatening manner.

Be sure to put pyrethrin spray (ant poison) on your belly (or whole front side) IF you are dove-hunting within a mile of any military installation:

Don't mistake wasps for grasshoppers. I'm still not sure how I didn't get stung yesterday. Whipple and I were stalking a bird and had to walk through some brush between a pond and a mesquite tree. Typically grasshoppers are jumping/flying all over the place and something hits me in the face. I swat it away as I notice the mesquite to our left is just a buzzing with wasps all around it.

Don't try to put your plug in an 870 in tall grass. The spring will jump out of your hand, and you will not be able to find it. Others will shoot their limit while you are looking for a spring. You will eventually get frustrated and begin shooting single shot.

You don't want to draw attention to yourself as the 'drunk' guy in the group so I follow Cosmo Kramer's advice.
Hennigan goes down smooth, and afterwards, you don’t even smell.

purell, gloves, grocery bags, rolled up orange socks... all useful in the field. (the socks are to be dropped when you get a shot in heavy grass so you have a reference point to search from)
