Beautiful Morning and Nice Finish!

Beautiful Morning and Nice Finish! - 01/24/15 11:42 PM

It was a gorgeous morning and one of the best hunts I've had all year. It wasn't the easiest and we had to work for every bird we got.

We didn't get a shot till 7:35am when we got our first and only pintail and he decoyed perfect.

It was small groups the rest of the morning but we got our limits to finish the season.

Absolutely incredible sunrise!

Good birds! That spoonie looks pretty well plumed

If someone isn't mounting that spoonie will regret it. I shot one like that I trashed and think about it every season. That is as nice as you will ever get. Screw the gwt those are a dime a dozen.

I did save the spoonie. He is very well plumed and was debating on getting him mounted.

How big do they get? I would say he's bigger than a teal but smaller than a wigeon.

I'll get a better pic posted.

I went out to the freezer and grabbed the spoonie. He apparently was more frozen than I thought because I went to straighten out his neck for the pic and it tore the skin. I had rung his neck so his head just about came off.

Thanks! I think I annoy my hunting buddies sometimes with wanting to take photos.

They will appreciate them when they are older.

Sorry to hear about the spoonie. Size is normally between widgeon and gaddie. Some of the young ones can be smaller but one with fill plumage is usually around 3yrs old and it takes all season before they get full plumage. Here was mine that I wish I would have kept. Headed to Mexico in 3 weeks so I hope to get a nice one there.

Nice one!

He was fully plumed but on the small side. I'd say about the size of a ringer with a longer neck.

I've already got a bufflehead I want done and a wigeon.

I've taken this wigeon out of the freezer three times to clean and just can't do it.
