Browning Maxus Issues?

Browning Maxus Issues? - 01/04/15 10:14 PM

Has anybody had problems with a browning maxus firing or not chambering shells? I went in the drink with mine yesterday. I cleaned it really good but this morning it wouldn't fire or chamber shells sometimes this morning.

Re: Browning Maxus Issues? - 01/04/15 10:31 PM

Mine will sometimes fail to cycle when it's really filthy and it's pretty cold out. When it does I will oil it and wipe it down and be good to go until it's filthy again. Problem I have is I can break the gun apart.

No offense.... Did you put it back together correctly? Oiled?

If you stripped it with gun scrubber or brake cleaner make sure you oil it good. They don't operate dry

Two drops of mobile one on the slides where the bolt runs. That's all it needs

I'll buy it off you

Re: Browning Maxus Issues? - 01/05/15 01:18 AM

I got mud on the inside of the chamber, and it wouldn't cycle right. Some had made its way down towards the stock, so the bolt couldn't slide right. Once I cleaned that area out and oiled the gun up, it fired like new.

My Maxus looks like its going back for the second time in a year for the same thing.
A couple of times during the last two hunts it acts like the safety is still on when its not.
If you move it back to safety, and then back fire it will shoot.

Have you dropped the trigger and cleaned the hell out of it? Just two pins.

Re: Browning Maxus Issues? - 01/05/15 05:37 PM

Yes, its been cleaned multiple times.
Seems to do it less right after its cleaned, but after a box of shells it happens more.

Hunting with it twice a year doesn't equal experience, if anything it'll go cheaper due to lack of use banana

What did you do toss it in bay?

There is a gasket inside barrel sleeve. Soak it with wd40

Wouldn't you need to get the barrel off to soak it? confused2

Re: Browning Maxus Issues? - 01/05/15 07:30 PM

No, you can spray it from the top around the edges.

There is a gasket/seal in there. Residue can build up on the mag tube thus making it tough to get off.

After you shoot is the spent hull staying in the chamber or is it throwing the hull and not reloading?

Did this with mine and it fixed it up. Make sure you clean where the buffer goes into the stock.

Not at all. I'm actually pretty delicate with my stuff.

I took it to a gun shop and they tried cleaning/soaking it and still nada. Will wd40 mess up the camo dip?

Then even scratched the [censored] out of it when I told them not to try jamming anything in there.mad

And when I picked up my the maxus before dove season they gave it back without a part. mad

Same place couldn't get me a part for another gun for over a month even when I told them where to get or let me know and I'll get it.bang

Got the part from another shop damn near instantly.

Re: Browning Maxus Issues? - 01/06/15 12:02 AM

So you took it to Cabelas, eh?

I bought my Maxus used there and had a similar problem to what everyone is saying, would shoot a shell and fail to cycle one from the magazine for a second shot. Took it back to them because it's where I bought it and I had to help the guy at the gun counter get the fore end off.. confused2

Took it to a gun shop and the guy there was super nice, spend an hour disassembling and cleaning every inch of the gun, and handed me a lubricant product called G96 for it. I was running the gun too dry before but with the G96 I haven't had a single problem, cold, wet, muddy, target shells or duck shells. Owned Brownings my whole life and love the way to maxus functions and points but I can't get over how high maintenance it seems to be. I clean all my guns after every hunt, I just wish it wasn't a necessity for it to function..

Re: Browning Maxus Issues? - 01/06/15 01:10 AM

That guy needs to quit spewing crap. WD40 is one of the best things to spray on the outside of your gun before and after duck hunting. How many times has someone went hunting and got their gun wet and then put if back in the case? Especially if you are traveling. Spray the outside down with wd40 and it will not get that surface rust. I spray mine down all the time and also when it is going to be stored for a good part of the year. When storing, I also spray the inside heavily. I do clean it before using because it will gum up after getting hot.

But to say there is no part of the shotgun for WD40 is just ignorant.

Especially if you store your gun in a place that is not controlled environment like a garage. My first summer in Texas cost me several items. My waders were ruined by the heat in the garage, along with my peep sight on my bow and a few other items (seal on my 1187 too).

On second thought, it sounds like Pitt really knows his stuff about the proper treatment and care of hunting gear. Forget everything I said about wd40.

Re: Browning Maxus Issues? - 01/06/15 02:45 PM

Well I don't know hayraker. He did say it wore out the seals on his 1187, and bobo said WD40 would wear out rubber
Posted By: TXPride

Re: Browning Maxus Issues? - 01/06/15 03:07 PM

I'll play the wd40 game.

I don't use it on my guns, but I don't think it is bad for guns (at least outside). My uncle lives and hunts on the coast (notorious for ruining many guns). He has had the same remington 1100 for 20-30 years and it still looks new. I was shocked when I asked him how he keeps his gun so nice and rustless hunting on the coast and his response was "I just spray it down with a little wd40."

For the original post: My beretta 390 would get gunky, and wouldn't cycle very well and I was using CLP brand gun cleaner. I switched to Rem-oil, and it is far more reliable and I don't have to strip it down as often.

Dry out.... Big difference

Well if you get hot it's going to make you all sticky

Re: Browning Maxus Issues? - 01/07/15 12:59 AM

The solution to your problem is simple. Just take it in to a gun store and have them remove the Maxus and replace it with a Cynergy. Mud/blood/rain/dirt/too little oil/too much oil/even WD40 makes no difference, it will always go BANG!
Posted By: Pittstate

Re: Browning Maxus Issues? - 01/07/15 01:43 AM

Heaven forbid you shoot a 3 1/2" BB Blind Side from your Cynergy......might take you shoulder off! They are a sweet gun, I just can't take the recoil.

I came from up north where it didn't get so hot and new houses came with garages that were insulated. I used my third car garage to store hunting gear up there without any issues. I quickly found out that the Texas sun will ruin your plastic/rubber gear very quickly when stored in a garage.
