Some men just have shorter barrels than others, and some are afflicted with the "early shooter" illness.

Re: If you are an early shooter... - 11/29/14 08:17 PM

They started shooting 12 minutes early on the lake I hunted yesterday, never saw another hunter but heard them in the distance, three other groups, all shot early, we did watch a ton of ducks flying early as usual. Its hard when you have two kids with you and ducks are coming into your decoys landing and they want to shoot with everyone else shooting.
The early shooters are everywhere, no doubt.

Ever hear of anyone getting a ticket for it? I haven't.

Re: If you are an early shooter... - 11/29/14 09:55 PM

Had somebody shoot 12 minute before lst this morning. Watching birds work and then a group of about 5 unloaded their guns. Repeatedly before lst. Beyond frustrating!

How about 20 minutes early? Yep happened this morning in NW Fannin County.

That's called dark!

Re: If you are an early shooter... - 11/30/14 01:55 AM

Well they started shooting at 6:20. By my weak math LST this morning would have been 6:40.

I've had some jackwagons shoot more than 30 minutes early before. mad

Fannin should have been at 6:33 for the city of Fannin

Re: If you are an early shooter... - 11/30/14 02:20 AM

Never heard of the city of fannin? Fannin County, that would be Bonham. Fox4 weather app said sunrise 7:10, wouldn't that make LST 6:40?

Re: If you are an early shooter... - 11/30/14 12:44 PM

A few years ago on opening morning we were setup and noticed a boat just sitting out in the middle of the lake. About 10 minutes before legal someone shot in the next cove and the boat took off in that direction. Pretty sure it was the game warden and somebody gave an autograph.

yall need better stuff to worry about
Posted By: txhunter64

Re: If you are an early shooter... - 11/30/14 03:21 PM

Well I worry about it when I've been sitting two hours and was watching 12-15 mallards swimming around my decoys until those jack wagons started shooting.

I heard none this morning, which was good cause GW's # was pulled up, just had to hit call.

Re: If you are an early shooter... - 11/30/14 03:32 PM

Early shooters don't bother me or the ducks. Its the retards that carry two boxes of shells and bang away at everything inside 70 yards til 10:00am that run the birds out of the county.

You should call the night before and give them a chance at catching them... chances are, unless they're right on top of the offenders, they are not going to catch anybody because there would be no actual proof. Maybe even video/audio record it for them and take pictures of plate numbers at the parking areas.

To me, it doesn't bother me that much to have a few shots a FEW minutes early. I wouldn't do it myself, but I can't make everyone synchronize their watches to mine, and if I'm set up close enough for early shots to bother any ducks in my spread- I should probably be a little further away from the noise. Otherwise, if you choose to hunt near the crowds, you deal with it however you see fit. Call the GW, or don't sweat it and just hunt. I guarantee we are not talking about night hunting/poaching here, probably all within 10mins of the mathematical LST which is probably a waste of time in court for the GW's who have much bigger fish to fry.

Re: If you are an early shooter... - 11/30/14 06:57 PM

17 min. early today North of Honey Grove in Fannin County. I'm gonna give the GW a call this afternoon to see if he can check it out next weekend. Tough to teach a kid about hunting with bozos like that out there. At least they're a good example of what not to do...

Re: If you are an early shooter... - 11/30/14 07:30 PM

I don't like shooting early but what tickes me off even more is being in not waiting at the gate to a place. If access to hunters is given at 4 you shouldn't be in your spot at 3.

That was me, I was checking to see if my gun was loaded...... but at least I had it pointed up

Must have been disappointing.

Re: If you are an early shooter... - 12/01/14 03:14 PM

I go by solunar chart in game regs, not what news says. Hardly think GW will hand out tickets based on you accusing them of shooting early and odds of them being there to catch have to be extremely low.

Second most expensive ticket I've ever had in my life. I know I was close but I didn't think I was as late as the GW said I was. I know the GW and he might have let us go with a warning but he was teamed up with a Fed Fish & Game guy so no slack.

you guys crack me up. we had a bad one a couple weeks ago. i was still brushing up the blind when they shot and I thought I was behind on my setup. checked the phone, nope, just some really early shots...i do still prefer that to the guy that drives in at LST and you can hear the decoys rattling in the bag til 730...
