I know but I just get tired of shooting woodroes. Daylight, squealing, boom boom boom and its over. I would like a chance to shoot at more mallards.

Surely that was an established camp area for 1000s of years. This point was found about .5 miles north and .9 miles west of your duck spot.

Speaking of duck spot, I put a flyer in the bbq joint down the road, looking for a second lease. You got any leads? We also need to make it a point to meet up this year for some of that bad arse bbq samich. On that same hill I found the point, a guy missed a big big deer Sunday evening.

Yup im not far from it at all but getting back there is another storey. Never thought there would be something like that around there. No leads on any duck leases I wouldn't mind finding another myself. Just give me a shout when your down im done with deer hunting for the season already so ill be chasin ducks hard this year.

Was it the deer you saw last year?

LOL No! I would imagine if the guy shot and missed that deer he would still be crying. Put it this way, my wife could not see a buck if I tied it to the hood. When we saw that deer last year, it was dark and that deer was standing near east fence south of the creek we have in common. Now being it was night and we only had seconds, for her to say "OMG did you see the size of that buck?" is in itself makes him incredible. That is a big big buck. I doubt he would make it as far as the hill I am talking about. I am fairly sure he is a river bottom deer that only comes out to play during the day, maybe 4 or 5 days out of the year, during the rut.

I have shoe boxes full of perfect, un-broken Dawson points from some of my folks land. After plowing and a hard rain, they literally covered the top of the ground. There were so many points of various shapes and sizes that I left the chipped/broken points on the ground.

The area south of Frost to Tehuacana/Mexia is covered with artifacts. I could fill up a tractor trailer with everything I've found over the years.

My father was from Mexia. He was quarterback that took the black cats to state in 1936 or 1937. He was picked up by Rice and quarteerbacked a win in the Cottonbowl in 1938. He played some at Waashington with the Redskins but that was it for his career. I would love to go looking up there.

My brother did at a public lake not far off but I wasn't able to go. We are letting the bay stay quiet until after the split... when all the mallards start piling in anyway.

Ill be hunting this weekend hopefully... weather may be to nice though

Re: sometimes only wooducks anddddd - 11/03/14 08:09 PM

I guess I should have gone. It only makes sense though. big front, big water, duck finds big water first. I should have read the signs better. I was already committed to the opening weekend redneckathon at my bud's place in Navasota and going to my lease also, so I didn't even think of reading what was happening with the migration and all.

I get more excited over finding a point than i would an all green limit. My wife and.i are going back this weekend with a sifter and shovels. duel I guess we will have to draw short straw to see who gets the point. When we draw I am positive she will win anyway. clap if I have to bring a point with me, she will find a point. That is called "I will have a paid for duck lease" for as long as I like insurance. banana

You Sir are a very smart man!!!! lol Due to having no hunting partner and not fond of duck hunting alone, I haven't duck hunted in 3 years. But when I was I'd have given my left n*t to have the same problem as you have. I've never even seen a wood duck while hunting, let alone having too many wood ducks. Congrats on having a problem like that!!!
