What's the going rate for a decent crane hunt? I'd also like to get on some cranes sometime. I'm a teacher/coach so time and especially money are very limited!!

Anywhere from $150-$225 depending on the outfitter for the most part. I'm sure there are some cheaper hunts out there.

With all the water in the panhandle, you could easily go up there in November (before the shallow playas start freezing) for a weekend and smoke them.

Check out the city park on the east edge of Brownsfield, sometimes we see it full of ducks geese and the area around it full of sandhill cranes. You will see so many that you forget about hunting them, you just sit there and listen to the racket they make.

Re: Sandhill crane hunt - 09/26/14 02:56 PM

Agreed. If I'm gonna drive all the way to west Texas and spend big $ I want to shoot them over decoys. Look for someone with stuffers, that will give you the best bet at decoying birds.

Sorry for the delay. You can contact O'Brian at loblakeney@yahoo.com to set up a hunt. I'll be going to Big Spring to help out when I can. We hunt SW and NW of Big Spring. He told me it would be around $200 a gun and need 3-6 hunters. No dates have been set up yet . His work schedule at SO just changed and has every other weekend off. Last year the birds were down early. They may be later this year with all the water and feed in the Panhandle.
