SOUTH TEXAS HUNTING OUTFITTERS - OPENING WEEKEND SOUTH ZONE DOVE SEASON (PIC HEAVY) - 09/22/14 02:53 AM
Well, opening weekend of the South zone has come and gone. We had some interesting weather patterns over the weekend but we still hammered on some birds! Friday was the start to a great opener, most of our hunters killed limits while others finished the morning hunt with a 5-8 bird average. The ability to shoot played a major part in the equation. We had a few thunderstorms move in on Saturday after the morning hunt but this did not affect the birds too much. Again, most hunters got their limit while others ended up with half a dozen or more in their bag. We were hunting over cut milo fields. Sunday was great- calm weather and a nice North wind this morning. Still good wing shooting after 2 solid days of hunting. Out of 26 fields we hunted 5 this weekend due to weather issues. Lots of waste grain on the grain kept the birds feeding over the 3 days we hunted. All in all it was a great weekend and we are looking forward to a solid second weekend with some new birds and cooler weather!
