softest recoil auto 12? - 09/10/14 04:47 AM
Im looking for an auto 12 that's nice and easy to shoot. Mostly for dove and maybe some ducks. A buddy let me shoot his new Browning Silver Pigeon last weekend and I was impressed with its light weight and super soft recoil. It was a great feeling gun but a little more than I want to spend. I would like some suggestions at a few different price points. Thanks

Be sure you shoot the one you have in mind with duck loads. There is a big difference in felt recoil from dove loads to duck loads in anything you shoot. Any gas operated auto will be softer than an over under or pump gun.

Check out stoeger m3000 or m3500 (3.5 inch version). They are about 700 bucks

Beretta A400 with Kick Off option

None of them are "soft" shooting 3" #2-4s
$1295!!!
I have a Weatherby SA-08 12ga, and it is pretty mild IMO. I've shot it with light dove loads (1 1/8 oz) and heavy #4 and 6, and even though it's a light gun it didn't beat me up. Affordable, too. I think you can find it cheaper but Cabelas has the Deluxe (wood) for $650. I bought mine at Academy when they carried them, think I paid $549 at the time.
Best thing to do is go shoot some and see what you think.

Another vote for Beretta A400 with Kick off.

Worth every penny though. I shot a gun one time with that on it. I didn't feel anything.

Shot 2 and 3/4 dove loads and then went through 3 3.5" #2s...yeah, I'll agree with the guys on this one...I forgot how much difference there is!

One more for the A400 w/kick off, try running some 3.5" hypersonics through one. It will still get your attention but its not trying to kill you right there in the field.

I own a Benelli SBE2, M2, Vinci, Beretta 400, Franchi Intensity, Winchester SX3, and Remington Versamax (Browning Maxus and new A5 are on order). The Versamax is hands down easiest recoil shooting 3" #2 and 3.5" BB. If they would make a Benelli M4 in a waterfowl gun with the comfort tech stock, it would certainly beat out the Versamax (since they both us the same twin gas port auto system).
I have a couple Over/Unders too....I wouldn't recommend one of those for duck hunting. They about take your shoulder off with each shot!

$1295!!!
Yeah, I know. But here's the deal. It's NO Recoil.
I know some, uh, mature gentlemen with shoulder and neck problems who couldn't shoot at all before this unit was available.
I don't need one myself (yet), but if I had to have it to shoot, I'd get one.
