Ring Neck Decoys

Anyone every use Ring Neck Decoys and is there a Ring Neck Call???

I have noticed that if Ring Necks are on the water other ducks seem to come in with fewer passes. I am not sure if they are picking up the motion, or coming in on the color. I really think it is the color early and then the motion later in the morning. Also, I have watched Ring Necks and other than Mallard Hens, they are the noisiest ducks.

Since it is the off season, I would like to hear your thoughts...

I just bought a dozen ringed-neck decoys so I hope that's not true. Where I am at (east of dallas) I more than often see ringed-neck ducks with many other species. They stand out really great too on the water.

More often than not. I just grunt at them like any other diver.

I have some and threw them where I diver hunted. They are ok but never had more success with them than any other decoy. I recently transformed the 3 drakes and 2 hens into bufflehead decoys for the coast. Work much better. As far as calling them like fooshman said I just kind grunt at them or roll your tongue kinda making a raspy sound at them. No real rhyme or reason just play with it and see what you think.

Yep I've got a doz of them and use them. Throw in some grunts on my calling if I see ID them on the wing. Sometimes the suckers are on you before you can call depending on your set up. Having cut my teeth on the coastal areas and lakes of Florida, I've killed a lot of ringers.

I use them. I love me some ringer shoots.

I've got two dozen. I like the black/white contrast as its visible from a long ways out. But 80% if my spread is ringer, can, spoonie, coots. Puddle ducks i use are pintail.coots. Its 1/3 mile from our hilltop to our lake. And from that distance the black and white decs are very visible and the rest if the typical puddle ducks are invisible. I have buddies that are MS timber mallard purists and they started mixing scaup/can decs in with the mallards in the timber. It works! Lookup ringnecks call on pbase or google. I use a mallard call and grunt to get close.

Funny thing is ringers get a pass with us. Purely cause I don't like skinning em.

This year we started mixing Ringers in with our decoy spreads, made a huge difference. We are hunting big water for West Texas and a lot of times we had trouble with the birds landing wherever they wanted, mostly on the other side of the playas/lakes. We tried everything for awhile, more motion, big big spreads, small spreads, etc. I finally bought a few dozen Ringers after reading an article in a magazine about the color contrast in decoy spreads. It holds the birds attention longer, and like brazosboyt said, they see if from a lot further away. We had great results. It's much like the idea behind the black and white Silhouettes for shooting Canadas.

Ringers, buffleheads, anything w white helps bring them in on big water. Red head, cans, etc....GHG gander mountain- get buffleheads for 39 bucks per 1/2 dozen

always good to have a splash of white in your decoy spread. I have 8 ringers and 6 buffles I use.

I usually have ringers come screamin into my dekes with only a few mallards out. Gonna try to throw some ringer dekes out though. The color contrast makes sense.
