Sam Houston national forest - 09/02/12 01:16 AM
I am looking for some help finding some areas that would be ok to dove hunt in the huntsville area. I am not looking for peoples spots, i have just been scouting on the forest but all i can find is wooded areas. Any help would be great thank you.

I think you will be making a lot more enemies than friends hunting dove in the SHNF.
If you want to dove hunt there are some public dove hunting areas along hwy 90 around Dayton/Liberty. It's pastureland and better suited for dove hunting anyhow. Just my 2 cents.

When I was a kid and we lived on Independence Dr in Liberty..Dad
who worked for Gulf got in good w/a lot of the ranchers that had
wells and they let him hunt...I do remember him killing a lot of
extremely large birds down toward Anauahc..DD

Exactly what ETX said. I've hunted the SHNF quite a bit for a variety of game and there really aren't any good areas to hunt dove that I am aware of. Those fields out in Liberty are your best bet...go mid-week to avoid crowds. Good luck...
