12/25/11 Christmas Green - 12/25/11 03:03 PM
Ive been planning on hitting a spot that has been holding a lot of mallards. My brother and dad were supposed to make the hunt with me this morning. Last night my dad decided he was going to sleep in.
The plan was for my brother and I to leave the house at 550 to get set up and ready for a great morning in the blind. Well my brother had plans of his own. I woke him up at 540 and he said "Ill be out in a minute" So I wait a few minutes to return to the spare bedroom and see him still covered up. This time I wake him and he replys "Im not going this morning. Santa showed up last night and dropped off the kids toys. The fat guy didnt assemble them, so I was up until 2am putting things together"
HAHAHA guess that why he is married and has two little kids. I decided to go and take care of the ducks, while he took care of his ZZZZZZZZZZZ's
The morning shoot was fast and furious. Greenheads were dumping on me left and right. There was no working the spread for them. They would just drop through the timber and slam into the water(literally) They would hit and go under the water. Never seen anything like it.
My shooting wasn't up to par like it was yesterday. I missed a few birds that should have never left the pond. I would just shake my head and hope another group would come in.
Great morning in the timber. Was able to scratch out 5 greenheads and a lone gadwall. I didn't figure I'd shoot 6 birds this morning. Ive only seen mallards on this particular pond.
Hope everyone has a great Christmas
